School of the Month Award
School of the Month
Each month we select a school to benefit from our School of the Month scheme. If customers shopping online don't have children at school, or a local school that they support, they can choose to donate their vouchers to a school that we feel could really benefit from more School Link vouchers to put to good use in their classrooms or library. Last month Swing Gate School Berkhamsted received £275 of vouchers through customers choosing to help in this way.
School Link is passionate about encouraging children to get more out of reading, so we'd love to hear from any schools who feel that they would benefit from being School of the Month.
Our current School of the Month is:
Gillamoor C of E Primary School
About this month's school:
This month we have decided to award Gillamoor Primary School as our School of the Month.
Gillamoor C of E Primary School was first brought to our attention when Kathyn Todd wrote to tell us about the amazing work of the staff and teachers whose unfaling dedication and commitment make just so much difference to their pupils.
I would like to nominate Gillamoor C of E Primary School, North Yorkshire, to be your School of the Month.
I first took my daughter to Gillamoor at the start of Year 1, hardly speaking a word and diagnosed with Verbal Dyspraxia. The care and attention of the teachers and assistants at Gillamoor have helped my daughter, now in Year 3, to be now on a par with her peers. When she started school her Dyspraxia meant her speech was distorted and she had no confidence with reading out loud. Although there are only 42 pupils in the entire school, 20 in Infants (Years R, 1 & 2) and 22 in Juniors (Years 3, 4, 5 & 6) and just two classrooms, there is a full range of reading materials for all ages and abilities which means that the books can be tailored to the children's progress.
At the end of the summer term we lost our temporary classroom which housed our library. Unfortunately this meant that we had to be ruthless and dispose of many old books. We sent those that were still readable to charities to send abroad to less advantaged children. But it means we now have a depleted supply of books.
I am a Parent Governor and the Secretary of the PTA. We raise money through the PTA for supplies but obviously any extra help is always gratefully received. The children are all passionate about reading and love to challenge themselves. A stock of new books, provided by School Link, would be so appreciated.
School Link take great pleasure in selecting Gillamoor Primary School as our chosen School of the Month and we hope that our book voucher donation will go towards helping their much loved library!
